Anita Witek wins the BIG Art & Construction Competition

The gallery is excited to announce that Anita Witek has been selected as the winner of the Austrian-based BIG Art & Construction competition with a new public art project entitled Circling the Square.

This new, permanent commission will renovate and expand the federal school, BSH Eisenstadt in Vienna with a functional art piece conceived by Witek.

In their unanimous decision, the jury stated that:

‘The project proposal Circling the Square by Anita Witek is mainly based on the idea to create an ambience that invites teenagers as much as adults to spend time there. The use of different materials provides opportunities for movement and seating for outdoor teaching.

From the first floor of the school, one can see a collage of colours and layers, that forms a gesamtkunstwerk (assembled artwork) on one half of the space. The jury was convinced by the highly sensitive colour and material concept, because it confronts the students with high-quality contemporary works of art on the one hand, and functions as usable space on the other.’
