Małgorzata Markiewicz, 'The Resistance Kitchen', 2018, screen-printed cotton tea towels, edition of 50 (individually numbered)
The edition of tea towels, The Resistance Kitchen, refers to the video under the same title made by Małgorzata Markiewicz in 2017 as a response to the Polish government’s regressive laws on women rights. Markiewicz presents her audience with a selection of recipies that include poisonous plants, playfully suggesting that they could serve as a weapon to fight an enemy if all else fails. The tea towels depict fine drawings of poisonous plants, individually screen printed on cotton, singed and numbered. They were produced for an exhibition Home Strike at l’étrangère in 2018. Part of the proceeds of the sales of the tea towels will go to Women’s Aid, a charity helping women who have suffered domestic abuse.
