David Ben White: East London Painting Prize and ‘Architecture of Enjoyment’
l’étrangère is delighted to be working with British artist David Ben White.
White’s practice draws from the self-conscious creation of the domestic space, a location in which we, as consumers, define our own aspirations and taste. Televised design shows, shop windows enacting domestic interior configurations, interior decorating and furniture magazines all elaborate a familiar language of nostalgic possibility, which we, in turn, aspire to surround ourselves with.
White is currently shortlisted for the East London Painting Prize, as selected by an influential panel including artist and painter Phoebe Unwin; editor of Art Review, Oliver Basciano; Director of the Zaludowicz Collection Elizabeth Neilson and founder of Launchpad, Sarah Elson. More details about the prize can be found here.
White will also be participating in the group exhibition Architecture of Enjoyment at Horatio Junior Gallery. The exhibition is curated by Marcelle Joseph and will run from 10 May – 5 June. Further information can be found here
